On 10 June, global container shipping line Ocean Network Express (ONE) and Freightliner, a subsidiary of Genesee & Wyoming Inc. (G&W), celebrated a key milestone in their relationship when they unveiled and named reliveried Freightliner locomotive 66587 in ONE’s corporate branding.

The loco naming ceremony took place at Freightliner’s Southampton Maritime terminal and was attended by around 40 ONE and G&W colleagues and other guests.

G&W’s UK/Europe Region Rail Commercial Director, Clive Slayford joined with ONE’s UK Director, Dave Elsom to unveil the locomotive’s name – AS ONE, WE CAN – representing ONE’s philosophy and core purpose. “G&W’s UK organisation is in the midst of an exciting investment programme, both in technology and rolling stock, that will further improve operational performance and bring even better service to our customers.” said Slayford. “I am looking forward to the positive impact this will have on our continued relationship with ONE over the next three years. “With CO2 emissions reduced by 76% per freight tonne mile moved compared to road, transporting more freight by rail also supports ONE in their commitment to the environment by helping reduce their carbon footprint. “This is the first time Freightliner has painted one of its locomotives entirely in a customer’s branding, demonstrating the significance of this new contract which will see Freightliner deliver a number of daily contracted wagons, across multiple ports, over a three year period for valued customers ONE.”

“We are very pleased to unveil the new ONE branded locomotive with Freightliner, a trusted partner of ONE.”

“The new locomotive AS ONE, WE CAN demonstrates ONE’s commitment to the environment and sustainable transport options throughout the supply chain. The name AS ONE, WE CAN is also testimony to our company spirit and achieving the best for our customers. With our valued partners Freightliner, we will continue to deliver to our UK customers, and we look forward to growing a greener future.”
