Partnering with Encirc to deliver an end-to-end service
Freightliner are proud to partner with Encirc, a glass container manufacturer and bottle filler producing more than 4 billion glass containers for leading global brands every year. Encirc are able to provide their customers with a complete beverage supply chain solution which Freightliner is involved with helping to deliver.
The Freightliner journey starts at our Southampton Maritime Terminal where imported wine arrives into the port. The wine arrives in plastic vats which are packed inside the shipping containers. Supported by Freightliner Intermodal3 Logistics, the wine is transported from the vessel onto our intermodal train services and transported via rail to our Liverpool Garston terminal. After arriving at Liverpool Garston, the containers are then further transported by road to Elton, the location of one of Encirc’s main manufacturing sites.
The wine is then emptied from the shipping container – the bag is removed, and the wine bag is drained into a bund. We then pump the wine out of the bund and into an intermediate bulk container (IBC) tank. Once the IBC tank is full, it is removed from the site and replaced with an empty tank ready to be refilled again. The leftover wine from the removal process is mixed with other products to produce fertiliser avoiding any unnecessary waste from the process.
At the same time, one of the main raw materials needed to manufacture the Encirc glass bottles, silica sand, is transported by Freightliner Heavy Haul. The silica sand is quarried near King’s Lynn in Norfolk, then transported three times a week by Freightliner Heavy Haul services to Encirc’s site in Elton.
Freightliner also provide critical track maintenance services to ensure Encirc’s rail infrastructure is fit for purpose as they continue to transport their goods via rail across the UK.
For decades, our Freightliner team have been turning knowledge, ideas and technology into pioneering logistics solutions that are built around our customers’ needs and solutions. Our ability to offer a wide range of logistics solutions whilst continuing to be both reliable and flexible made us first choice for Encirc to partner with.
