Supporting Network Rail over Christmas
Freightliner was, once again, instrumental in supporting Network Rail in the delivery of a successful programme of engineering works over the Christmas and New Year period 2018.
Haulage supplied nationwide
Running 53 engineering trains, Freightliner supplied haulage for Network Rail worksites on a nationwide scale, hauling materials to replace and upgrade rail infrastructure including ballast, rail, sleepers and machinery, helping keep Britain moving on the rails.
The festive period brought a busy and challenging possession workload for Network Rail, including major works at Milton Keynes, Holloway, Battersea Pier, Westbury and in several Scottish locations, all of which were delivered without incident and on time thanks to Freightliner’s detailed planning and focus.
The work at Milton Keynes has even exceeded expectations with line speeds handed back at 125 mph rather than the anticipated 60 mph, resulting in faster journeys for passengers on the West Coast Main Line from Euston.
“Network Rail Route Services would like to thank and acknowledge Freightliner for the work undertaken to ensure a right time hand back for all worksites. Freightliner reacted and provided additional assistance on top of the usual demand and acted with levels of professionalism that we have come to expect over the years.”
Neil Welch, Network Rail Business Manager, Delivery Services
“This was a significant logistical challenge for Freightliner and, in typical Freightliner fashion, we were able to adapt to several unforeseen situations involving various re-plans and extensions to deliver for our customer. I would like to recognise and thank our Freightliner colleagues who sacrificed celebrating Christmas with their families as well as the many thousands of staff working for Network Rail and their suppliers.”
