Help for Heroes was nominated by Manchester based Gavin Denton and the cheque presentation coincided with a Help for Heroes golf day at Bolton’s Dunscar golf club.
The event organised by Gavin was one of the Hundreds of golf events taking part across the country as part of the 2010 National golf club in aid for Help for Heroes.
The day was a complete success with 100 people playing with 25 visitors and a mixture of men, women, and junior members taking part. Throughout the day raffles were held and a snack bars were opened to try and raise as much money as possible for the worthy cause. The day was finished with a family barbeque for all attendees.
Aaron Moon, a member of the Battle Back scheme attended the golf day and accepted the cheque from Freightliner on behalf of Help for Heroes. The Battle Back scheme – partly funded by Help for Heroes – is run by the British Armed Forces and encourages wounded Servicemen and women to participate in adaptive adventure training and sports, including golf, as part of their rehabilitation. The Royal Marine fractured his shoulder, pelvis, vertebra, hip, heel and legs when the vehicle he was in drove over a Taliban bomb in Afghanistan last year.
Gavin Denton, Freightliner Limited said: "A very big thank you to everybody that helped make it such a special day raising a grand total of £2400 for Help for Heroes. I am already looking forward to next year and hopefully it will bigger and better. Thank you to all who attended the day and contributed donations."
Bryn Parry, CEO and co-founder, Help for Heroes said: " When Emma and I decided to do our bit to help wounded servicemen in 2007 we had no idea so many people across the UK would decide to join us and together, create the Help for Heroes phenomenon. People have run, climbed, cycled, swum, parachuted, baked, in fact done just about anything honest and decent to raise money to support our blokes. The money raised, £59m to date, is all used to provide direct, practical support to those wounded in the service of our country. We have already spent £millions and we have a shopping list of future projects that will ensure they get the very best. We may not be able to prevent them from being hurt but we can certainly do our bit to help them get better.
Freightliner’s wonderful donation and the fundraising by Dunscar golf club is hugely welcomed, they should be congratulated and, on behalf of all those who the money will benefit, thanked. Well done; Great effort!"
