The 14:30 departure from Scottish Coal’s distribution point at Killoch, Ayrshire to Fiddlers Ferry Power Station near Warrington, left and arrived on time and included the one hundred millionth tonne moved by Freightliner Heavy Haul.
Established in 1999 in response to customer demand for an alternative rail freight option to the then sole incumbent operator, Freightliner Heavy Haul quickly secured contracts with major blue-chip companies who sought an innovative, reliable and flexible alternative to the traditional providers of their haulage. In December 2000, the first coal train was operated into Eggborough power station and since then the company has grown significantly and now, uniquely, operates regularly into all the UK’s rail connected power stations and offer services from all the mines and coal ports that serve the energy market.
The 100 millionth tonne landmark is testimony to the position that Freightliner Heavy Haul has achieved by working closely with its customers and supply chain partners, in becoming the only rail haulier offering genuine nationwide coverage aligned to short-notice flexibility and total reliability.
