Cleveland Potash

“We are delighted with our move to Freightliner Heavy Haul which was executed with extreme professionalism and no disruption of service."

In April 2007, FHH won a contract for the haulage of over 1.5 million tonnes of Potash and Salt from Boulby Mine to Tees Dock terminal and Cobra Rail freight, Middlesbrough.  There are up to 8 trains per day run using 2 locos and very enthuastic crews. Part of the line is private railway belonging to Cleveland Potash and the line runs through some dramatic scenery.

“We are delighted with our move to Freightliner Heavy Haul which was executed with extreme professionalism and no disruption of service. Our operating personnel have taken on a new lease of life with their direct communications with Freightliner drivers and operators. It has allowed them to have up to the minute positioning when required and enables everyone to get on smoothly with their respective roles. Our train movements are a lifeline to the mine which is situated in a National Park and therefore of paramount importance in our liason with  shippers/ customers.”

Lafarge Cement

Dave Burley              Supply and Distribution Director

"As the only UK manufacturer with nationwide coverage, we are committed to using rail to transport our products across the UK, as an effective and sustainable form of transport.  In fact, we are investing over £20 million at our Hope Works in Derbyshire to increase the amount of cement transported by rail to over a million and a half tonnes.  Our partnership with Freightliner helps us become more efficient and opens up new possibilities which will allow us to make further improvements in service and performance."

FHH are the main provider of bulk haulage by rail for Lafarge Cement UK. Following on from the success of the last 7 years of the Contract Lafarge Cement are making a very large investment in their rail operation, with the expansion of the rail head at the Hope Works in Derbyshire and the development of a completely new distribution depot at West Thurrock, connecting into the rail network at Purfleet. This investment is driven by Lafarge's confidence in rail, allowing them to realign their distribution network to suit their growing market.

Aggregate Industries

Simon Blake             National Rail Manager

"It is with confidence that the job will get done that Aggregate Industries staff talk to Freightliner Heavy Haul everyday."

We  started the contract with Aggregate Industries in April 2006, since that time our relationship has grown from strength to strength, we have started new flows, in addition to the contracted tonnage, these are  Bardon Hill Quarry to Theale and Neath to Theale. using both our and Bardon wagons and Croft to Parkeston Quay train in FLHH box wagons. We have also started running trains for Bardon (South West) moving Sand from Burngullow to Angerstein also in Freightliner wagons.  The Contract is  growing and Freightliner will be there to transport aggregates for Aggregate Industries well into the next decade.

“Over a year ago Aggregate Industries (Bardon Aggregates) commenced a contract which placed the majority of our Railfreight traffic with Freightliner Heavy Haul.  We identified at the time, one of the key reasons for our decision was the commitment and dedication demonstrated by the individuals who are involved in the activities which provide us with the Railfreight product we require.  A year on and our trust has not been misplaced.  It is with confidence that the job will get done that Aggregate Industries staff talk to Freightliner Heavy Haul everyday.  Possessions will over run, mechanical items may fail, staff will be ill, the weather may be difficult and many other events can affect the service. Freightliner's staff over the last year have demonstrated how with extra effort the impact of these adverse events can be minimised.  We are grateful to the driver who stopped to discharge the train, the shunter who was diverted from normal duties, the fitter who readied the relief locomotive, the roster clerk who covered the turn and all those individuals who put in that little bit extra.  It remains the dedication and commitment of the individuals which give Freightliner the ability to succeed, long may it continue.”
