In November 2007 Freightliner annouced it was taking landmark steps by ordering locomotives of a brand new design to improve haulage capacity in the UK.
The first two locomotives are due for delivery in November, followed by a further four a month later.

The PowerHaul locomotives are a new development in Freight locomotives for the UK, providing increased payload, acceleration capability, enhanced fuel economy and a reduction in carbon emissions.
